Just Call Me The Runaway Bride

you may have guessed how much marriage appeals to me by my sideblog item "this settles it" (marriage ruins everyone, even genuises and criminals). i've always thought i learned about the perils of betrothal at a young age, having gone and done it and failed miserably before i was old enough to rent a car. but these kids have me beat in their cynicism about the opposite sex hands down, and at such a young age. good on 'em.

and if you do decide to go through with it, at least take the advice of this little sage:

"You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming." alan, aged 10

Awesome... now that is some good funny. I especially enjoyed the no-sex comment for being all grossed out. But now that the laughter has subsided, the feeling that I have done something wrong is somewhat overwhelming....

I'm torn on the subject. My wedded bliss is a wonder to behold, but in all fairness I've seen more shitty ones than good ones. Esp below the age of 25. Damn what do you know about yourself...enough to know you are the right match for someone else...forever. Because if your not going to try "forever"... don't bother. Also, what is it about these people that bail the first time they have a fight or something goes wrong...did they not realize that some effort is envolved...had they watched too many Romantic Comedies and thought that everything goes perfect? I know I'm ranting but I've seen too many friends take a good relationship and friendship...get hitched because they thought that was the thing to do... find out that living together 24/7...paying bills, mowing lawns, snorring, leaving underwear on the floor, dirty dishes, and all the rest was maybe going to cause an occational conflict...and when it happens they throw thier hands up and call it quits because they don't try to work it out. I will not step down from my soapbox and return you to your regular programming.
