the article tells the story of a man who tried using a composting toilet and found the entire experience too troubling to continue. odors, flies, handling our own wastes...haven't we advanced beyond this?

Hey...I love nature as much as the next person. Hell, I've been to some of the most beautiful places on the planet (Isle of Skye still wins), but what's the fun of being the dominate species on the planet if we can't have our creature comforts.

Are you sure we're the dominant species? I bet there's more ants than there are human beings. Incidentally, some birds have built a nest in a tree near my house. I think this is an environmental disasaster as they've taken twigs and leafs, etc, from the ground to make their nest. If this organic matter had been left on the ground it would have decayed naturally thus replenishing the nutrients within the soil. As it is the birds have clearly screwed up the natural cycle and they should be ashamed of themselves.
